Redesigning a legacy product always comes with high expectations—and this one came with extra pressure: the original Generation 1 Dual Fuel was the very first collaboration between us and Wolf. For the Generation 2 Dual Fuel Range, the client asked us to reimagine a best-selling product we had already helped bring to life, while improving it in every measurable way.
Wolf’s goal was clear: raise the bar again. They wanted the Gen 2 DF to deliver an unmatched cooking experience through upgraded user interactions, improved ergonomics, and performance-forward features—all while maintaining the iconic Wolf design DNA.
The challenge was to push forward without losing what made the original successful. This meant navigating internal expectations, legacy customer habits, and increasing competition from other premium appliance brands.
Design
The design brief evolved from early collaborative workshops between Wolf engineers and our designers, including deep dives into user behavior, kitchen workflows, and customer feedback on the first generation. The team prioritized refining the tactile experience of cooking—making sure every dial, grip, and gesture felt both intuitive and elevated.
We took into consideration how users interact with control knobs, burners, and ovens in real-world settings and used those insights to optimize layout, spacing, and heat zones. At the same time, we leveraged advances in manufacturing, electronics and technology to open up new aesthetic and functional possibilities.
Deliver
The design team generated multiple industrial design directions, using hand sketches and CAD explorations, iterating closely with Wolf’s in-house engineers to ensure every concept met their demanding performance and safety standards. This process ensured each feature—from the touchscreen to the industry first in-knob display and industry first co-axial—felt purpose-driven, premium, and timeless.
The final GEN 2 DF design embodies a modern culinary workhorse—blending professional performance with elevated design. It features refined, sculpted details across the control panel and knobs, a sleeker profile, and enhanced visual balance across sizes and configurations.

Our collaboration with Wolf Appliance led to the creation of their best-selling Dual Fuel Range line—available in 30", 36", 48", and 60" sizes. Designed in close partnership with Wolf’s engineering and marketing teams, the product line earned both the Excellence in Design and Good Design awards, and helped Wolf steal market share from the competition.
Ranked #1 by J.D. Power in the Range/Cooktop/Oven category, this line is celebrated for its performance, intuitive use, and elevated design. We struck the perfect balance—downplaying complex electronics, which we cleverly concealed as they are historically not a component of professional equipment. Instead, we emphasized the rugged beauty of commercial-grade equipment—to create a refined, versatile aesthetic that could also fit seamlessly into any high-end kitchen.

A reimagined hide-away control interface with refined touch screen LCD display for enhanced visibility. Coming to rest at the perfect ergonomic angle when deployed.
Improved burner configuration and layout to accommodate varied cookware and chef workflows.
Combining knob functionality into fewer knobs to save cost, space, and improve the intuitive ease of use. With an in-knob display and co-axial functionality, both industry firsts.
Redesigned control knobs for improved grip, and precision—offering a more confident cooking experience.
Sculpted stainless steel fascia and visual cues that align with the broader Wolf/Sub-Zero family.
Soft-close oven doors and ergonomic handle design that improves comfort and adds a layer of luxury to every touch.
Result:
The result is a next-generation culinary appliance that builds on its predecessor’s legacy—earning multiple design awards and maintaining Wolf’s place at the top of the high-end appliance category.
