PolyScience Vacuum Sealer
The Process
Discover
Initially, the client tasked us with modernizing the vacuum sealer — a product category often associated with bulky, outdated industrial units. Their goal was to align the design with modern kitchen aesthetics and the surging interest in sous-vide cooking.
Many models on the market were visually harsh, ergonomically awkward, and visually uninviting — often resembling lab equipment. Our challenge was to create a residential countertop product that felt approachable, intuitive, and worthy of counterspace in a contemporary kitchen.
Design
The team began with user research focused on home chefs and small foodservice operators. Key priorities emerged:
Simplify the user interface to reduce intimidation
Create a clean, visually integrated form that communicates ease-of-use
Optimize for frequent, small-batch use rather than commercial bulk sealing
Improve the ergonomics and loading process
Design a footprint appropriate for limited counter space
These insights informed a product vision that emphasized tactile simplicity, visual elegance, and functional clarity.
Deliver
Our design team developed a striking, compact vacuum sealer that elevated the countertop appliance experience. The form conveyed confidence and cleanliness, with design cues that perpetuated the aesthetic of the product line and at the same time integrated seamlessly into modern kitchens.
